SAP’s New Data Replication Policy: What It Means for Your Analytics

🚨 Big changes are coming to SAP data extraction! If your organization relies on direct table-level data replication, you need to rethink your strategy. As outlined in SAP Note 3255746, direct extraction from SAP tables using non-SAP tools is no longer permitted. This shift will have major implications for businesses that depend on third-party tools for analytics and reporting.

Why This Change Matters

Many companies extract data at the table level to feed their data lakes, BI tools, and machine learning models. This method provides raw, transactional data in bulk, allowing teams to process and analyze it as needed. However, SAP is now restricting the use of the ODP RFC API by third-party tools, making these types of table-level extraction tools non-compliant.

Instead, SAP Datasphere Replication Flow is now SAP’s recommended tool for data extraction. While this solution offers numerous premium benefits—especially for organizations deeply embedded in the SAP ecosystem—it does come with additional licensing costs. For businesses with smaller analytics use cases, these costs may be prohibitive, making it essential to explore alternative approaches.

A Cost-Effective Alternative: Redfig’s SAP BTP-Based Data Extractors

At Redfig, we’ve developed a compliant, efficient, and scalable approach to SAP data extraction that doesn’t rely on table-level replication. Instead, we build extractors into SAP BTP using SAP OData APIs, allowing businesses to access their data from the application layer rather than the database layer.

Why This Approach is Better

✅ Business Context – Extracted data is more meaningful because it includes the semantic and business logic already embedded in SAP applications.

✅ Easier to Work With – No need to reconstruct relationships and joins—data is pre-structured and ready for use in analytics and reporting.

✅ Fully Compliant – Our approach aligns with SAP’s latest licensing policies, ensuring your organization remains compliant while still gaining the insights you need.

As SAP tightens control over data extraction, businesses must adapt. Redfig’s BTP-based OData extraction method ensures that you get accurate, contextual, and SAP-compliant data without the headaches of table-level restrictions.
